A Champ

She’s a champ and she’s a star.  She fights for love and she loves to fight but better if the fight is all in fun.  Aries women have a warrior spirit.  They are more likely to choose red over pink, jeans over skirts and boots over heels.

This warrior girl has a Leo ascendant and Leo is the star.  People notice her when she walks into a room.  Jupiter hangs back a little just behind that bold Leo facade, a perpetual angel on her shoulder, bringing along a knowing smile from God knows where about heaven knows what.

She isn’t all fight though.  There is a softer side as well.  A love of pretty things and special people.  Libra moon softens every blow, sweetens the pot and brings grace and gentleness that might catch you off guard if you aren’t careful.

She’s a study in extremes.  Nothing about her is half hearted.  She will champion the underdog and fight for what’s right and with a tricky Gemini Mars, she can outmaneuver even the most clever strategists.

She is a study in contrasts.  Her life is equal parts charmed and cursed.  She was dealt a hand of cards that could win or lose any game and her edge is her fighting spirit.  When she wins, you know she earned it and thanks to her upbeat and somewhat quirky spirit, everyone was rooting for her all along.

It’s her birthday and her solar return chart predicts a dynamic year ahead.  Fueled by passion, grounded in her vision for her future and sustained by forces she may not even be aware of, she will lay the foundation for the rest of her life this year.  Things begin to fall in place in a way they never have before.  She’s finding her stride and gaining confidence and grace with every step.  There are mysteries yet to be revealed and old wounds to be healed and all the time in the world to set it all right.

Happy birthday lovely warrior girl.  I hope it’s the best year yet.

Gemini Moon

The moon is in Aquarius today and I am pondering attachment vs detachment.  I am also pondering another moon sign and it’s impact in the birth chart.

The Lovers tarot card is associated with the sign Gemini.  All of the mutable signs have a distinct duality and with Gemini the split is masculine/feminine.  The challenge for each of the mutable signs is to marry the opposing forces within and find graceful ways for them to work together.

Our card for today is The Emperor.  Who is running this show?  Are you in control of your life, your destiny?  If not, who do you think is?  Your options may be limited but you are not a helpless pawn.  DO something.

Our card for today is The Hanged Man.  The Hanged Man does not die.  He exists in a state of suspended animation.  He sacrifices indefinitely.  What are you trading for forward movement in your life?  Is it worth it?  How long will you hang there and what will you have gained for your suffering?

Our card for today is the Three of Wands, also called Virtue.  Keep walking your path.  You have the determination and drive to get where you’re going.  Where is it that you are going?

Our card for today is The Empress.  The Empress speaks of the need to be determined and powerful in order to achieve those dreams we mentioned yesterday. Once you’ve drifted through the clouds for a while, it’s time to touch your feet to the earth, open your eyes and get to work making it all happen.  Now listen.  This is important.  If you go for what you want, some people are going to object.  Let yourself be guided by wisdom, by compassion, by integrity.  Do not let yourself be guided or dissuaded by those who call you names and stand in your way.

Our card today is Prince of Wands.  Prince of Wands is a dreamer.  He lives as much in his heart and his spirit as in this physical realm.  He beckons you.  Follow your dreams he says.  You do have dreams, don’t you?

Wednesday’s card of the day is The Tower.  The Tower is one of the big scary cards.  It’s message today isn’t frightening though.  Today, give consideration to the structures you are building.  Are you creating something sustainable or are you playing a real life version of Jenga?  Alternately, with the restless moon in Gemini today, there may be a tendency to want to upset the apple carts and shake things up.  A little jiggle could bring the whole tower down, so be careful how you play out there in the world.

Tuesday’s Card:  The Chariot.  The desire for movement continues to be strong within many of us.  The Chariot says let your horses run.  With the sun and Mercury in Pisces, we remain supported by our faith.  Guide with your heart or your gut, not your head.  Keep your center of gravity low and feel your way through the curves.

So Many Decks

Bringing this post up to the top for those who have asked what deck I’m using.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have quite a collection of tarot decks and hope to add more.  There are a few on my wishlist but for the last ten years or so I have invariably turned to the same deck when doing a general reading.  That deck is the Rohrig Tarot.  It is a stunningly beautiful deck patterned in the style of Crowley’s  Thoth but using beautiful modern painted images.  The symbolism is rich and interesting, leaving plenty of room for interpretation, yet it doesn’t stray so far from the traditional that it loses meaning.
I have a few other favorites that I turn to now and then.  One of those is the sweet little Tarot Nova.  It is simplistic and innocent enough to safely use with children or the easily offended, yet it is a perfectly functional deck in it’s own right.  I love the primary colors and whimsical design.
When I’m in the mood for something a little less orthodox, I turn to Brian Froud’s Faeries’ Oracle, a deck that never fails to entertain and inform.  The faeries don’t really do linear time, they tell me.  They are tricky and I hear them laughing a lot at our human condition when I read with that deck.  But for the most part they seem to want to help, so long as they are treated with respect.
A new favorite is the Deviant Moon Tarot.  It is quirky and a bit dark, but so eloquent.  I turn to that deck when I am reading for people who appreciate the unusual and who tend to want to go against the grain of society.
Tell me about your favorite decks.  Are you multilingual when it comes to tarot decks or do you have a one and only that speaks clearly for you?
Monday’s card:  The Seven of Wands, also called Valor.  Take heart.  Your patience may just pay off, if you have the courage to make a leap of faith.  Take a moment to feel the ground beneath your feet.  Can you see the other side?  Can you really believe in your ability to make it across the chasm?  Then go!  What are you waiting for?
Our Current Sky
Astrologers look at where the celestial bodies are at a given moment in time.  The natal or birth chart is a snapshot of the sky the moment an individual is born.  We refer to the planets in the sky right now as transits and it is interesting to look at how those planetary movements interact with our natal charts.  It is an endless kaleidoscope of planets, luminaries and asteroids dancing around the cosmos and every astrologer is going to notice something different to talk about.  And every single person will experience the effects of the current sky in an individual way.  I will tell you my stories and share with you what I notice about what’s happening in the heavens.
Right now we have sun and Mercury in Pisces and Mars in Virgo.  Mars is retrograde, which means that it appears to be moving backwards from our vantage point on earth.  When a planet turns retrograde, we feel a shift of that particular energy.  It can be a good thing because sometimes you need a little slack in order to untangle the knots.  And it can be a frustrating thing if you are eager for forward movement in the area of your life impacted by the transit of a retrograde planet.
Virgo and Pisces oppose each other.  Virgo is mutable earth, Pisces mutable water.  Virgo is a humble servant, attentive to details and very much focused on the solid, real world.  Pisces has head in the clouds and an open heart and shares the need to serve, though Pisces is more likely to serve spirit than body.  The balance between physical and spiritual is an important one and one that is going to continue to be in the forefront as we move towards the Virgo full moon a little more than a week from now.  How are you faring with the sun in Pisces?
Sunday’s Card:  The Five of Cups.  In my Rohrig deck, this card is titled “disappointment”.  There is a feeling of hopelessness about this card, of loss and of being stymied.  Yet there is always an alternative to despair.  Today, as the moon enters earthy, patient Taurus, consider choosing acceptance over regret.  Rather than trying to force your way past large immovable objects, wait.  Tomorrow may bring a solution that you are too weary to continue seeking today.
