One of the most important things to be aware of when reading is setting your intention. It is trickier than it sounds. You’ll need to pay attention to all of the ways that your beliefs affect what the way you use the cards. Tarot, like any spiritual practice, falls in the realm of Neptune and the 12th house. That means it is an inherently leaky system. The information you seek leaks through in between the lines of reality and so will any fears or doubts.
The moon in our natal chart shows our emotional nature. It can give clues about how you will be impacted emotionally in various circumstances. It’s important to look at the sign, the house and any aspects to other celestial bodies in your chart. Your natal or birth chart is the starting point to understanding your own nature through astrology. When you have a good grasp of your own chart, you can begin to understand why the moon in Scorpio makes you feel the way it does or why particular times of year hit you the same way every time.

There is so much to be said about the moon. It features so prominently in all the best poetry, songs and children’s books. Astrologers get excited about the moon and we sometimes overlook it’s transits because they are so fleeting, but no other celestial body moves us on such a personal level.
Have you ever known a Gemini? I don’t know if anyone ever really knows them all that well. They don’t sit still very long or if their body is still, good luck trying to pin down their thoughts. They ask a question and before you can answer their mind has made three leaps further from the original topic.
Meet Kevin. He is my stepson and he is a quintessential Gemini. Sun, Mercury, Moon, Saturn and North Node all in Gemini. With a 12th house Neptune in Aquarius trining his moon perfectly, he has musical talent to spare and the imagination to do incredible things with it.
This is the kind of chart that makes astrologers say “interesting…” in that slow puzzling way. It is complicated, though that is not to say impossible.
Astrology, or any sort of metaphysical art, should be wielded with care and skill. It is not a blunt instrument with which to bash yourself or others.

Yesterday afternoon I found myself delayed when my truck wouldn’t start. I had gone to a nearby technical college to take an exam, finished early and then was stuck there for four more hours waiting for first a mechanic to try and start it and then a tow truck to take it to my repair shop. I had a lot of time to think. Of course I spent a little time cursing the luck that kept me from getting home. This is how my luck often works. I’ve never won the lottery. I don’t think I have better than average luck at games of chance. There is just this lucky sort of protective grace that makes the bad things that happen not nearly as bad as they could have been and brings enough joy, love and fun into my life to tip the scales decidedly to the good. THAT is Jupiter in action. 
“I’m a lucky boy!” Those were the words Aubrey said when surveying his birthday stash. Although his life has been far from opulent, he seems to have been born with this attitude and he really does seem to have almost everything his heart really desires.
Then I realized how lucky I really was. If it had happened when I was out shopping in preparation for Aubrey’s little birthday celebration I would not have made it home with his gifts and would not have been able to make his cake. I was in a comfortable place with access to food and restrooms. And no one has to go anywhere today so no plans are spoiled for today. The men in the tow truck were very nice, dropped the truck and then dropped me off at the house.
Saturn gets a bum rap in astrological circles. People dread their Saturn return and moan about Saturn’s placement in their natal chart. I am here to tell you that I appreciate my Capricorns and others with strong Saturn influences.
I have come to appreciate Capricorns in the last nine years. Oh sure they have a reputation for being stodgy and taciturn and while they can be quite practical, the one I know best is rarely without a cheerful smile.
There is so much fear surrounding the practice of tarot and this is most evident when the scary cards come up in a reading. Even people with some familiarity will gasp at certain cards. I feel a sense of responsibility to be a voice of balance for these maligned archetypes.
I just posed a question about favorite tarot cards vs. the ones you dread to see in a reading. I’ve come to terms with some of the outlaws and tend to see them, like the archetypes of astrology, as largely neutral out of context. We take them so personally sometimes as though they are more than messengers trying to show us the way.
A bit of astrological fun for you all. Please note that these may not apply to you. If you are looking only at your sun sign, you may not relate. More likely you will relate to several of them.
Aries need to MOVE. They are likely to feel better for taking some action, no matter what it is. If it can be made into a game that involves mock battle or honing their fighting skills, even better. Aries NEED a challenge.
For most of you, it all boils down to your sun sign. Do Capricorns get along with Geminis? What about Cancer and Virgo? The frustrating answer you’ll get from most astrologers is “it depends”. Oh sure there are plenty who will give you pat answers and you’ll go away believing that a Sagittarius and a Taurus could never see eye to eye or that a Scorpio should seek a Pisces and no one else. The problem is, those kinds of answers represent a gross oversimplification.
People often lump astrology and tarot into the same category but they are two distinctly different arts and one may be more appropriate for some questions than the other.
Psychics get lumped into some funny classifications sometimes. We are entertainers and novelties. We are often not taken seriously and sometimes that’s a matter of self preservation. In many cities and counties in the South, you can be paid for entertaining but it is a crime to accept payment for “fortune telling”.
