Has anyone ever told you that you will never do something. That it’s just not within your realm of possibilities? My step daughter is a woman who was handed this message over and over. The adults in her life had her convinced that she was stupid. Some of them believed she was lazy but she knew how hard she was trying to understand.
The moon is full in Pisces today, near Neptune and Chiron in the sky. And tightly conjunct my natal Saturn in Pisces.
Pisces is the martyr of the zodiac. Keywords for Pisces include imagination, belief, dreamer. And also prison, addiction and illusion. Pisces has faith, believes in the better days to come and sometimes gets completely lost in that hope. Pisces can lose sight of what is real and tangible. Pisces can lose itself completely, forgetting where the edges of one begin and end.
My life is a study in sacrifice at the moment. I don’t say that for sympathy. It is a very good life, privileged and comfortable. And every decision I am making now is for the benefit of those I love. There is a payoff, months from now but if it were just me I would fly and not look back.
When the moon is full it’s energy is balanced by the sun. Full moons always draw us out over an axis. Today’s axis is Virgo/Pisces. Virgo says put your actions where your beliefs are. Pay attention to the details. Serve in genuinely helpful ways, and not just by doing whatever feels nice in the moment. Know where you are going and how you will get there.

The building cardinal grand cross is on the minds of everyone who follows astrology. First let me remind you what those words mean in case you aren’t sure. The cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. If you drew a line from Aries to Libra and Cancer to Capricorn you would have a perfect plus sign or cross. When we see planets in this kind of evenly spaced formation on four points of the zodiac we refer to it as a grand cross. It is essentially a fortress. Or a prison. Where ever you turn, there is something guarding or blocking the way. Whether this is good or bad depends on how well you like where you are right now.
If the signs we were talking about were mutable signs, you might be able to negotiate with the guards. If it were fixed, you would certainly be staying put. With Cardinal signs, you are probably moving fast, but more like a high speed locomotive on a track than an off road vehicle. The course is set and the conductor and the engineer are not open to negotiating.
Curious about how this will impact you personally? You will have to look at your own chart to find out or consult a pro. Those with sun or moon near 13 degrees Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn will be most personally impacted. Looking at which houses are affected will tell you how it might play out in your own life.
There is a lot of gloom and doom out there. The sky is not falling. You will most likely survive this and many will even thrive under this event. If you aren’t sure yet what track you are on, expect that to be revealed by next week’s full moon, though by that time your course over the next several weeks is likely to be set.
The old adage about March coming in like a lion and out like a lamb may apply to the weather, but this year it certainly doesn’t apply to the stars. The tension we are all feeling from the cardinal t-square peaks with the New Moon on March 30th and with that we are fully into the swing of Aries season.
When the new moon occurs, the sun and moon are in the exact same place in the sky from our perspective for a moment. It is a very focused energy and when that occurs in the sign of Aries, we experience that Aries energy in a very profound way. Aries is a trailblazer, courageous, single minded, determined. These are all fine characteristics and let me give you a few more to balance out the concept of Aries. Aries is also combative, hierarchical, and self absorbed. Every sign is a two sided coin and of course Aries is no exception. It is up to each one of us to use this energy to it’s highest, or to sink to the lowest expression.
Now if we only had the Aries sun and moon to deal with, it would be a simple thing. The challenges come because we have some heavy hitting planets in the mix as well and they aren’t positioned to play nicely, necessarily. We have Pluto making it’s slow transit through Capricorn. Pluto at it’s best could be seen as the fire that burns away the old, clearing the way for the phoenix to rise from the ashes. It is terrifying and magnificent. And on the opposite end of the spectrum as well as the other side of the sky, we have Jupiter in nurturing Cancer. Jupiter is typically seen as the great benefactor and Cancer is the eternal mother, a counterpoint to the Capricorn concept of stern father. It sounds complicated doesn’t it? There is one more element to add to this and that is the element of surprise in the form of Uranus, right there in Aries next to the sun and moon.
In simple terms we have an epic battle between our own selfish needs and desires, our sometimes desperate fight to hold onto our public image or reputation and the chance of having all of our wishes come true. Each one of these areas of life is important and valuable. The challenge lies in the way they seem to be tugging against one another at the moment. Whenever we see a t-square in the chart, the answer lies in the fourth quadrant of the circle. We have three of the four cardinal signs involved. The one not represented is Libra. Some Libra keywords are balance, partnership, the needs of the other over self. When you feel pulled by the great tension in the sky right now, the solution lies in your efforts to strike a balance, to work as part of a team and to consider the needs of those around you as carefully as you do your own. It is always true that we cannot do it all alone. It is more true right now than ever that we need to pull together in order to accomplish our mutual goals.
Elements of this t-square are long term and will not be new to you, and when the sun and moon become involved we feel them on a more personal level. This is most pronounced at the very end of March, the beginning of April and then again around the middle of the month when the moon is full in Libra.
It isn’t all hardship, however. There is a great deal of grace in the sky this month, particularly in the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. In fact, toward the end of the month we see a grand trine form in water signs and this goes a long way in easing the pain of the more difficult aspects we are dealing with. First we see the planet Mercury move through Pisces and then Venus joins in, bringing her gentle touch to the sign of her exaltation. What’s more, she will trine Jupiter, still in the sign of it’s exaltation, Cancer. When a planet resides in the sign of it’s exaltation that means that the planetary energies have their highest expression there. It’s the best Venus, the best Jupiter you could buy. If that weren’t enough, we see these two beauties trining one another as well as Saturn in Scorpio. Trines are said to be the easiest, most smooth flowing aspects. Given all of this watery love, I expect particularly those with Pisces, Scorpio and Cancer represented strongly in their charts to see some real benefit during the course of this month. Earth signs will also tend to appreciate this energy and of course we will all enjoy the areas of life that are eased by this dynamic.
Stay tuned. I will be writing more about the very busy sky we have this spring and summer.
Our next lunar event will be the full moon in Pisces on September 19th. I enjoyed doing the new moon group and will be hosting another similar group for the full moon. Admission to the group is $5 and includes a single card reading posted in the group. If you would like to add a brief look at your chart and how the full moon may impact you, it’s $15. Private readings are $90 per hour for tarot or astrology or a combination. Paypal your admission fees to me at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the secret room on facebook and include birth info if you are adding the astrology option. There will be discussions about Pisces, Virgo and lunar transits in general as well as tarot topics. Group members are invited to post threads and share in on topic conversations in the room through the 19th.
At the moment of the new moon, the sun and moon in the sky are in the exact same place from our vantage point on earth. This is why we can’t see the new moon and why sometimes we have solar eclipses with new moons. The moon turns it’s dark face completely to the earth. Astrologically, this means both of our celestial light bodies are exerting the very same influence. With Virgo, there is an emphasis on order. Details become highlighted, sometimes to the detriment of the bigger picture. We can become hypersensitive or hypercritical or both. We can also become honed in and attentive, provided we aren’t overwhelmed by the information before us. During Virgo season (sun in Virgo time and the time other planets may or may not join in) it is helpful to take time for personal care such as meditation, exercise and even things like personal hygiene. During Virgo season and particularly new moon in Virgo, details matter.
The new moon is said to be a good time for new beginnings, and for setting intentions. There is a clean slate/back to school feel to it for me. The moon got as small as it could and met the sun in the sky, having made it’s way through all twelve signs. Every new moon is an opportunity to examine a new area of your chart and set new goals that support that part of you.
I am currently offering a New Moon tarot and astrology special via facebook. Find me there at my page, Jupiter Shines or look me up - Lupa Fleming. Access to the private new moon group and one card tarot draw for $5 or go for the astrology package and get access, a card AND a short new moon astrology reading posted in the group. Private readings available as well. Message privately with questions.
Hello Jupiter Shines world. I’ve written about luck before. Are you lucky? Do things usually fall your way or do you feel like you have to invest twice as much effort as the average person for the same returns? Jupiter(luck) squares Uranus(the unexpected) in my chart and I have random luck. Once in a while I get exactly what I need at exactly the right time.
But here’s a more important question for you. Do you see it when it happens? Are you grateful for your luck. I do not subscribe to the dangerous idea that we create everything that happens to us. That idea gets twisted into a blunt weapon to beat the already downtrodden with. You have to see where you’re lucky though, in order to remain hopeful, in order to keep trying. And if you give up, you really will create some terrible luck for yourself.
Tell me about your luck. Tell me something wonderful that has surprised you today.
An astrologer friend of mine, Aliza Moonpluto, has begun blogging several times a day now that Saturn is direct. I am finding the urge to write again myself, though it isn’t my third house (communication) that Saturn is visiting.
Saturn is direct near my Scorpio moon, in my twelfth house. I was born to feel things deeply, and often provide this service for others. I feel what they cannot access. I bring it to the surface for them. I am going home (moon) to do the work (Saturn) I’ve always been called to do. It is my Gemini sun and planets that require me to tell these stories to you.
My roommate’s youngest son is a four year old Gemini and is quite the charmer. He can turn on some real sweetness courtesy of his Cancer moon and ascendant, but that trickster side is always in action.
This morning I noted with surprise that he is now perfectly capable of operating the television remote to switch between episodes of his favorite show, Power Rangers. He shrugged and said “Yeah, I can do it.” ”I thought you needed help with that.” I said. ”Nope, I like people to do it for me sometimes. Sometimes I lie.”
Rarely malicious, Geminis often little attachment to the unvarnished truth. Do you have any tricksters in your world?
My daughter has fallen for a boy who lives in England. She’s there visiting him now and his parents, both Scorpio sun signs, have taken her in and treated her like family. Now if you’ve never been befriended by a Scorpio, you may not know the depth of their loyalty or just what it means to earn their trust in the first place. I have Scorpio moon and ascendant and relate more personally to that sign than to my Gemini sun.
Scorpio lives a little deeper beneath the surface than most of the world. We do not take things at face value. Every motive is questioned, every gesture examined for sincerity. The good ones (of course there are good and bad of every sign) will never break their word, never betray, never deceive. Scorpios sometimes are accused of being too intense, too emotional, that is if they are they sort to let their emotions show at all, because they can be very tight lipped about, well everything. Once you’re in, you’re in and God help anyone who hurts someone a Scorpio loves, so my daughter is a very lucky girl and with her own Scorpio influences, she knows it.
Now you know if you’ve been reading here at all that the placement of the sun at your birth only tells a bit of the story, and so this pair will have some things in common courtesy of their Scorpios suns, but they are two distinct individuals. The chart images look like a mirror of one another, a perfectly complimentary set.
Her Scorpio sun and other planets fall along the descendant, the line marking the beginning of the house of other. She puts everyone else before herself, loves to serve and is maybe a little baffled that others don’t think the same way though you won’t hear her complain. Steadfast, Venus ruled Taurus falls at the beginning of her chart, the ascendant. Taurus is the quintessential earth mother and while she is so much more than that, this is the side of her that greets you upon first meeting.
He is all first house, house of self. Self directed, self sufficient, self motivated and maybe occasionally a bit self absorbed. But only a little or only on occasion because this first house person has Libra ascendant and Libra is all about keeping the balance. Scorpio’s no holds barred intensity is tempered by the grace and charm of a Libra exterior.
And so we see a theme develop with these two. Grace and charm coupled with dependability and the capacity to sustain. To sustain one another and anyone they care for. Both are also dreamers. You have to be to overcome some of the challenges they’ve faced and keep a positive outlook intact.
Saturn is the planet of hard work, facing fears, overcoming obstacles. It is in the sign of Scorpio in the sky right now and no doubt calling on these two Scorpios to face some challenges, to keep pushing through and to carry on despite times not being the easiest. They will persevere, as they always have and these challenges will not be the worst for there is support in the sky as well.
This is the tip of the story. Scorpios would never forgive me for telling their secrets here on my blog. Consider this the gift tag and the private readings to follow, the real gift.
Follow the moon’s movement through the heavens to learn astrology. This has always been my first advice to people interested in deepening their understanding of astrology. It is effective because we feel the moon. Studying the phases of the moon and the moon in each sign gives you an opportunity to feel your way through the zodiac’s 12 signs every 28 days.
One of the things I was once sort of famous for was my habit of dying my standard poodle pink. I used harmless food coloring in the process of her regular bath. It was great fun and she loved the attention.
I first dyed my dog Roxie the day the levies were failing in New Orleans after Katrina. I needed to get away from the news and what I discovered was there is magic in shaking up people’s perception of reality. Walking around in the world with a big pink dog gets attention. It makes people stop what they are doing and ask questions, interact. It breaks them out of their rut, if only for a moment.
My friend wasn’t just wishing me fun or silliness. She knows those ridiculous colored dogs are part of my life purpose. I am here on the planet to make you think, to question mundane reality, to shake things up a little.
What is your life purpose and what do you wish for to help you along that path in 2013?

I have Saturn in my fourth house natally. I have a love/hate relationship with the idea of home. Fourth house, you may know, is associated with home and family, our roots and our heart. It anchors us to the past, feeds us and provides a soft place to land. Saturn there makes the landing a little rougher sometimes. To further complicate things, my natal Saturn in the fourth house is in the sign of Pisces. Pisces flavored things are difficult to pin down. They defy easy definition.
Adding to the complicated mix, Saturn is a cornerstone, not just by it’s nature but by it’s placement in my chart. It ties into all of the best and worst aspects of my natal chart. Discipline, structure, work ethic, responsibility… all must be balanced carefully on the knife’s edge. Too much Saturn and I am rigid, inflexible, stubborn. And breakable, like a bone.
Why is my fourth house Saturn on my mind? Because I’ve recently moved and while i am highly adaptable, I need a little corner of the world to be my sanctuary. With Saturn in my fourth house in faith centered Pisces, my home is my temple and my temple has been in ruins.
What does your fourth house tell you about the concept of home? Contact me privately if you would like to take a look at your chart. Together we can untangle the inner conflicts that prevent you from accomplishing your goals.
We are about halfway through Mercury Retrograde. How are you faring? I feel like I”m moving through jello but things are slowly improving for me.
You can comment or ask questions on the left sidebar. I look forward to hearing from you!
